Using your VSG Tool - Bariatric Edition - Bariatric Food Expert

I think that it is important to stress often and to as many clients as I can that the VSG is not what makes you lose the weight after surgery.  What enables you to lose weight is exactly how you use your important tool.  Many clients see it the wrong way around.  The VSG will not fail us unless we fail it first.  

So how can we fail the VSG procedure ?  Well for starters we can choose not to listen to our nutritionists and surgeons and coordinators and we can choose to eat all the refined carbohydrates, processed foods and sugar.  Post surgery is a time for fresh starts !  It is a time to get a grip on our sugar addiction and a time to quit drinking all the soda and to start making the best foods decisions that we can make.  It’s a time to nourish our bodies post surgery and to begin to understand food labels and why we should be shopping on the exterior of the supermarkets.  

Our VSG surgeons have provided us with a very important tool.  That tool is restriction and if we eat correctly, the restriction is going to work and it will allow us to feel full quickly IF we make the right food choices.  Sugary drinks, crispy crackers, chocolate, chips etc., go directly through the sleeve quickly and leaves us craving more of the same highly processed, refined foods.  

If we choose to fill the VSG pouch with fresh produce and protein and high quality fats:  such as green vegetables, meat, chicken, eggs, greek yogurt, fish, seafood, nuts, seeds, butter, coconut oil, avocados etc – the VSG results will be phenomenal.  We will not crave the foods which are unhealthy for us and the scale will continue moving in the right direction.  We will feel better and our health will greatly improve.  We will feel satiety after eating and we will not have the urge to graze and be snacking all the time.

Now, what’s not to love ?  We are completely 100% in control of our health and our own VSG journey. It doesn’t matter that “so and so” can eat chocolate and drink soda – this is YOUR journey and if you want to succeed and to continue succeeding, then you need to clean up your diet and use your tool as it was meant to be used.   The best part … if we fall off the clean eating track and we mess up along the way, tomorrow is a new day and it’s a fresh start to get control of things again.  We are in charge of our bariatric journey.
